Inspired by seaweed drifting and curling around treasures along the shoreline, the Seaweed Twist Collection captures the movement of the tide. Its textures reflect the soft spray of sea foam and the barnacles that cling tightly to the rocks, mirroring the memories we carry with us.
For this ball chain necklace, I use the decorative granulation technique. I melt tiny pieces of silver into perfect spheres or granules, and carefully fuse them to the surface of the piece to add intricate, textured detail. I love the way they evoke tiny droplets of sea foam or spray.
I heat the metal again – and then immediately quench it in a warm pickling solution. This brings the fine white silver to the surface, giving a natural, satin white finish.
Finally, I hand-pick a natural rough ruby for the necklace. Ruby is symbolic with love, passion and vitality. The gem is set into a bespoke silver claw, which perfectly follows the unique shape of each stone. The ruby’s untouched, raw beauty and deep pink hues remind me of hunting for sea anemones and hunting for treasures found along the shore. These gems are uncut and natural, allowing their organic shapes and natural character to shine through. Paired with my recycled sterling silver, they bring a bold, earthy elegance to my pieces, capturing the imperfect, wild beauty of nature in every design.
