The Rockpool collection is inspired by walks along the beach and the thrill of treasure hunting. Where hidden treasures meet handcrafted memories in silver.
To start these earrings, I hand-pick a pair of dendritic agate stones, not matched by shape, but by the delicate, seaweed-like patterns that grow naturally within the stone, like tiny branches frozen in time. I then melt wax bubbles and droplets around the stones to preserve them as keepsakes to last forever. I use the ancient lost wax casting technique to turn the wax into silver.
The wax piece is encased in a plaster mould and heated – the wax melts away and becomes ‘lost’, leaving a perfect cavity into which to pour the molten silver. Once cooled, the plaster is broken away to reveal the silver beneath. Finally, I set the gemstones into the silver casts and the memories are immortalised.
