The Coral Collection was my first, inspired by travels, beach treasure hunting and happy memories. I’ve always been attracted to the rich and intricate details of coral as it washes up on the shoreline.
For these studs earrings, I use a technique called ‘acid etching’ to create intricate and permanent relief etched on the surface of the recycled sterling silver. I hand paint a coral-inspired design using a protective resist, and then submerge the studs into an acid solution. This bites into the exposed areas, leaving a recessed pattern.
I repeat this process a couple of times to create the multiple layers and textures found on a coral’s surface. Thanks to this process, every pair of stud earrings are one-of-a-kind, just like their coral inspiration.
