The Coral Collection was my first, inspired by travels and the sound of coral tinkling beneath waves as they met the shore. Each piece is crafted to hold the textures and treasures of the sea.
For this ring, I use a technique called ‘etched through’ to create intricate and permanent designs on the surface of the silver. I hand paint a coral-inspired design using a protective varnish, and then submerge the ring into an acid solution.
This bites into the exposed areas, I allow the acid to eat all the way through the silver, creating organic forms and holes in the surface.
Finally, I heat the silver and use a doming block and punch to create smooth, domed forms reminiscent of coral and personal stories of the seaside.
