The Coral Collection was my first, inspired by travels and the sound of coral tinkling beneath waves as they met the shore. I’ve always been captivated by the delicate, layered textures of coral – simple in form, yet rich in intricate detail.
For this belcher chain charm bracelet, I use a technique called ‘acid etching’ to create intricate and permanent designs on the surface of the silver. I hand paint a coral-inspired design using a protective varnish and then submerge the charm into an acid solution. This bites into the exposed areas, leaving a recessed pattern.
Once cleaned, the result is beautifully detailed. I repeat this process a couple of times to create corals endless natural variations. And just like the coral, every etched recycled silver charm is unique.
