Seaweed Barnacle cluster studs with smoky quartz

At the heart of the collection are delicate barnacle clusters, inspired by how these tiny creatures hold tight to the rocks — just as we hold on to the memories that matter most.

I create each individual barnacle by melting, carving and texturing wax, by hand.  I then put it through an ancient process called ‘lost wax casting’. The wax barnacle cluster stud earrings are then encased in a plaster mould and heated – the wax melts away and becomes ‘lost’, leaving a perfect cavity to pour the molten silver into. Once cooled, the plaster is broken away to reveal the silver treasure for me to turn into earrings.

I heat the metal one more time – and then immediately quench it in a warm pickling solution. This brings the fine white silver to the surface, giving a natural, satin white finish. I give a buff over raised areas to further highlight the intricate textures of the shore.

Finally, I hand-pick a stone of smoky quartz for each stud. The gems are set into a bespoke silver claw, which perfectly follows the unique shape of each stone. Their deep, earthy tones remind me of mysterious, misty mornings by the sea. These smoky hues, from light grey to deep brown, feel grounding and calming, like holding a little piece of nature’s quiet strength. When I work with this stone, I want to capture its natural shimmer and depth, creating jewellery that feels like a treasured memory from the beach, something you can carry with you always.
